I was unable to attend GenCon last year due to a pregnancy induced bed rest, but my husband found a way for me to experience GenCon even over the miles. Before he left, he stated one of his goals was to find a representation of my character in the D&D homebrew campaign we've been playing in for several years. While he was there, he and the DM running the campaign agreed on a picture they felt represented my character, Sephera. So, Tom called me on his cell phone and helped me navigate to an image of the picture on the Internet. He chose LA William's portryal of Guinevere. I'm sure I disapointed him when my response was to ask how on earth I was supposed to tramp through the dungeons in that gown. I think I also complained that the wrap on her shoulders would also interfere with the somatic aspects of my spell casting.
However, his interaction led me to research the different artists that appeared at GenCon and asking him to go check them out. It was so nice of him to share his experiences with me. He could have easily ignored me while he was gone, but he kept interacting with me through calls and e-mails. I was able to view GenCon through him. He brought back an autographed copy of Larry Elmore's book "Elmore 20 Years of Art." As soon as he got back, I told him in 2007 we were all going to go to GenCon so I could meet the artists myself.
