During GenconIndy 2003, my 11 year old son and I were walking past a suppertime crowd in front of PF Chang's when a guy called out "Hey, can you help us out?" We approached him and he asked "Are you guys StarWars fans? Good, could you tell these girls who we are?" One of the two guys was easy to recognize, Daniel Logan, who played young Bobba Fett in Episode2; the other guy,who was doing most of the talking, was tougher. It turned out to be Ray Park who had played Darth Maul in Episode1. (He looked familiar since he had been Toad in the first X-Men movie, a role where he had a lot less facial makeup.) The local girls, young , blond, in halter tops, were not impressed even after we identified the two guys. I pulled out my GenCon program and asked "As long as we're at it, how about a couple of autographs?" Ray Park replied "Great, that's got our pictures in it." So he and Daniel Logan autographed the program book right next to their photos in the Guest of Honor section, and then passed the book to the girls, who still didn't buy it. At this point, a very frustrated Ray Park pulled out his wallet (I thought we were going to witness an American Express card commercial) and whipped out his driver's license. Yep, no question it was Ray Park, but I guess these girls really didn't care. My son and I left the StarWars duo to their fate. At least we scored that evening, a couple autographs and a newfound appreciation for women who do appreciate scifi and gaming.
