Meeting a co-worker at GenCon

Story: Meeting a co-worker at GenCon

I had been attending GenCon for a few years now (most of them in Indy). Last year, my husband and I were browsing the exhibit hall. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed someone intensely staring at me. It took a moment to register...it was a co-worker of mine. He works a few cubicles away from me. We had never known that we shared a mutual interest in gaming. "I'm spending my vacation days at a gaming convention" isn't exactly something that is normally discussed amongst co-workers. We both had a good laugh about it. Being short on gamers in our area, we invited him to join our gaming group. We worked 15 feet from one another, but it took GenCon to introduce us. The person in the cubicle next to you could be a geek in a corporate disguise. ;)

That's an awesome story. :) I always just say that we're "visiting friends" whenever co-workers ask. It avoids any judgements. It's not that I'm ashamed of my hobby. It's just that you always get that strange look when you tell them the truth.

That happened to me, too! At the first GenCon I ever attended, I was walking through Mecca & as I passed a group of gamers walking past, I recognized a co-worker at the same time he recognized me. We just pointed at each other as we walked by, cause we were being swept along by our respective groups, but when we got back to work, we started talking & remain friends to this day.

I love when that happens!
