Battletech Moster Brawl

Story:

Back in the day, my friends and I loved Battletech and Gen Con was running this massive "Last man standing" Battletech Brawl with what must have been 3 dozen people crowded around an enormous table. People were excited, there was energy in the air, and my friends and I sat patiently in our mechs, waiting for the game to begin.

Rewind 3 weeks

My friend Bryan invited us over to his house for the unveiling of his "killer mech" design that he had been working on for a week. It was crazy! It moved at a snails pace of 2 spaces a turn and over-heated after every shot! The key though was the 10 medium lasers. He broke out his calculator to show that it was a statistical certainty that if all of us shot at one mech, it would die, period. Haha! Sounds good to me. Lets roll!

Fast forward to the Battletech Brawl

So there we were, moving oh so slowly across the Battlefield. Pow! Pow! Pow! My friend was right. Dice were flying and head crits we the Special of the Day. RAR! Mechs were dropping like flies as we stood side by side. We were invincible! ...or so we thought.

Our arrogance got the best of us I think.

After one loud celebration in particular, something changed. Everyone at the table, all mechs that were still standing stopped fighting and started moving... towards us! United in a common cause! Pow! Pow! We fought off the first wave but once they started jumping behind us, we were done for. Our Reign of Medium Lasers had come to a glorious end.

It was perhaps the most fun I have ever had playing in an event at Gen Con and my friends and I still mention it from time to time when we get together.
